Summary

This job involves leading a team to develop and manage physical security policies and systems for the Social Security Administration, ensuring the agency's facilities and operations are protected.

Supports the Security Officer in providing leadership in the formulation, evaluation and implementation of protective security policies, initiatives and procedures for the agency.

Supervisory work and related managerial responsibilities constitute a major duty and occupy at least 25% of work time. See DUTIES for additional responsibilities of this position.

To qualify for this GS-14 Supervisory Physical Security Specialist position you must demonstrate at least 52 weeks of Specialized Experience gained in a federal position at or above GS-13 OR (if your position and/or experience is in another federal pay scale OR outside of federal service) by performing duties at a level of responsibility and difficulty equivalent to GS-13.

Such experience should primarily consist of reviewing and analyzing physical security administrative operations, including state-of-the-art equipment, procedures or techniques.

Specialized Experience must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

If you have federal status and are applying for promotion, you must have at least 52 weeks at GS-13 (OR 52 weeks in a federal position equivalent to GS-13 as determined by this office).

Time in grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Must have (or be able to obtain) and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance (TS-SCI). Major Duties:

  • Comprehensively evaluates security activities that highlight agency priorities and ensures an efficient and effective operation in providing protective security services to the agency.
  • Oversees staff researching new trends and technology to ensure the agency is using state-of-the-art physical security equipment and systems.
  • Guides the reporting of security data and information which provides agency management and staff with timely, relevant, and accurate input in which to base decisions on and effectively manage agency activities.
  • Manages teams who are responsible for providing expert advice and professional service to agency employees, other Government agencies, and private contractors.
  • Maintains awareness of day-to-day security activities, determining needs and providing advice to upper management and staff regarding alternatives for problem resolution.
