About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the DIR of Surgery, DEPT of OB/GYN, Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in healthcare administration, which includes 1) managing patient scheduling, medical records, and healthcare documentation utilizing healthcare software; 2) assigning, and reviewing job duties; 3) and resolving non-complex patient complaints.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

In addition to meeting the specialized experience above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist.

A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Serve as the Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) for federal employees performing all Front Desk/Phone Room clerk Duties to include, but not limited to registration duties in receiving patients and making appointments.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees.
  • Prepare performance standards and performance appraisals for Conducts and creates formal performance evaluation, submits and provides justification for recognition for promotions and awards.
  • Prepare time and attendance payroll for medical support assistants.
  • Serve as a principle advisor to service chiefs regarding all forms of administrative planning in support of healthcare operations.
  • Serve as the liaison between the patient and all other providers in the multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Promote good customer relations by greeting and assisting patients and monitoring patient flow.
