The Parks & Recreation Superintendent - Community Centers is a full-time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department.
The primary duties of this position consist of performing administrative and managerial duties involved in directing the daily operations and activities of the Community Recreation Division.
This position works varying shifts as needed, which may include nights & weekends.
Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County.
Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway.
Metro Parks offers after school programs for children, activities for seniors (55+), cultural arts classes, dog parks, fitness classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, art galleries, and much more.

Requirements
- Develops and evaluates programming for a variety of recreational activities for youth, adults, and seniors.
- Establishes relationships in the community to facilitate effective planning, programming, and networking.
- Focuses high priority and attention to improving staff morale in the Community Recreation division, and team building within the division.
- Focuses high priority and attention to the respectful and equitable treatment of staff.
- Establishes goals and objectives consistent with the overall plan of the Community Recreation division.
- Performs a variety of administrative duties and participates in purchasing functions for the division.
- Oversees business operating procedures; develops and manages budgets/grants.
- Coordinates outings and works on special events and projects as needed.
- Ensures accuracy of employee reports, timecards and other written material.
- Establishes a high number of in-service trainings to ensure proper services are provided at all community centers.
- Attends workshops, training seminars, and conferences as needed to stay informed about current recreational trends.
- Supervisory responsibilities for a staff of approximately 30 employees. Interviews, selects, trains, develops, and evaluates employees.
- Oversees disciplinary actions of employees under their supervision.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor's Degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Public Administration, Business administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university,
and five (5) years of professional experience in a recreational facility operation.

Additional Information
- A valid Driver License
- Experience communicating with a large, diverse staff located across the county, as well as with community stakeholders.
- Supervisory or managerial experience, preferably in recreation or community services.
- Demonstrated experience in budget preparation and oversight, including grants and purchasing.
- Experience in planning and implementing recreational programs for diverse populations (youth, adults, seniors).
