Summary

How to be Successful in the Role:

Bring your knowledge of and the ability to perform a variety of maintenance trades like irrigation, landscaping, equipment repair, athletic field maintenance, and more.

If you have experience with special event setup, that’s a plus!

Your willingness to learn and perform all the specialized maintenance tasks, as well as support in whatever capacity necessary to achieve objectives, will guide your success.

Your Future in this Role:

You will get to be part of a maintenance team that operates, maintains, and repairs the infrastructure of the Pierce County Parks system.

Your work will be instrumental in providing Pierce County residents with safe and enjoyable parks and facilities.

Success in this position also offers a great foundation for future professional growth within the Parks and Recreation department.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • General Park maintenance duties such as opening/closing facilities, grounds maintenance, turf management, garbage/litter pick up and disposal, cleaning public restrooms, site and structure inspections, facilities maintenance, vandalism repair, and unauthorized encampment clearance.
  • Be involved in playground, trails, and irrigation systems maintenance.
  • Proficiency using an automated Work Order system to retrieve assignments and document work performed.

Qualifications

  • Additional education or training may substitute for up to one year of related experience.
  • Two or more years work experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, grounds keeping, construction, or maintenance trades.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Employees are subject to 24-hour on call availability and must be able to work any shift at any location as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience installing and maintaining irrigation systems.
  • Facilities and grounds maintenance experience.

Possession of, or the ability to obtain may be required for some positions:

  • Valid First Aid Certification, including CPR
  • Valid Washington State Pesticide License
  • Satisfactory physical condition is required as indicated by a County-approved physical examination.
