Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a front-line support in a neonatal intensive care unit at a military hospital, where you'll handle patient check-ins, schedule appointments, manage records, and use computers to prepare reports and forms.

It's ideal for someone with customer service experience in a healthcare setting or office skills from school or volunteering, who is organized and comfortable with typing and basic tech.

About the Position: This position is located within the Director for Nursing Services, Maternal-Child Nursing, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes receiving patients and visitors in a medical treatment facility or clinic setting; scheduling patient appointments and/or coordinating patient referral appointments; maintaining patient records; and preparing a variety of correspondence and reports utilizing office automation tools.

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Major Duties:

  • Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinates and/or schedules patient appointments with other clinics or specialties.
  • Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
  • Maintain patient records, both electronic and paper.
  • Enter, manipulate and/or retrieve information and data from automated systems.
  • Type routine correspondence, progress reports, medical statements, memoranda and statistical reports using various automation systems and programs.
  • Complete request forms, manually or automated, for individual patient orders, blood work and other requests.
