Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a small team that handles the setup, maintenance, and support of audio-visual systems in over 250 conference rooms across King County government buildings.

The manager will oversee daily operations, coordinate new installations, manage vendors, and ensure smooth technical support for users, both remotely and in person.

Full Job Description

This position is open to Internal King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) employees and eligible Priority Placement participants ONLY. Only current KCIT employees and eligible Priority Placement participants will be considered.

The King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) Customer Support Services (CSS) group is seeking a dynamic IT Manager – A/V to lead our Audio-Visual Conference Room team. The IT Manager - A/V will manage a small group of technical staff dedicated to providing day-to-day operational support to over 250 conference rooms outfitted with KCIT, which supplied standard audio-visual technology in many locations throughout King County. They will be responsible for managing new installations, supporting existing installations, lifecycle management, project management, managing contracts and vendors, identifying future technologies and service offerings, handling escalations and expectations for partners, while always keeping the customer experience in the forefront.

Responsibilities for the team include providing technical support to many geographically dispersed customers effectively via remote tools, or in person when required, with an eye on continually improving processes and striving to deliver exceptional value. This position will participate in the development of standards, policies and procedures that pertain to the new AV service.

As a member of the Customer Support Services leadership team, this leader must have advanced technical and political acumen. They must be knowledgeable about how government organizations operate and be capable of working collaboratively while navigating complex situations effectively. The qualified candidate will push themselves and others for results, effectively communicate with customers, and foster open dialogue among team members.

Requirements

  • Manage and lead technical staff, assign work programs, set performance expectations, develop performance measures, conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, feedback, and administer progressive discipline if needed.
  • Provide oversight and coordination with Facilities Management during the construction of new conference rooms incorporating AV functionality.
  • Participate in design, lead implementation, and provide ongoing support for supported video conference rooms.
  • Prioritize projects and resources for services, installation, and support.
  • Interacts with vendors regarding hardware and software purchases, upgrades and maintenance and training and other relevant issues.
  • Continued development of skills, knowledge, and focus on improving processes and procedures, while keeping up on trends and developments in the industry.
  • Drive training and associated materials to users relating to effective use of the supported AV room technologies.
  • Monitors performance and utilization of systems.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve and enhance. audio/video conferencing services to internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for inventory of audio/visual equipment and to ensure it is in good operating condition including responsibility to ensure preventative maintenance is done on all necessary equipment.
  • Works with management to develop plans, forecasts, and budgets for the department.
  • Drive the development of staff soft and technical skills utilizing SMART goals.
  • Create culture that motivates and empowers staff to provide excellent customer service.
  • Direct the development and actively manage standards, procedures, documentation, and training materials for KCIT staff and customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years combined experience managing and or leading IT staff.
  • Minimum 3 years of related project management experience managing small to large audio-visual projects.
  • At least 5 years of combined experience operating in a large enterprise AV environment handling new requests, service intake, prioritization, and escalations.
  • Proven experience in contract management such as developing contracts, editing contracts, and working with contract specialists when needed.
  • Proven ability to manage and work collaboratively with vendors.
  • Experienced with developing training plans for direct reports, cross-training staff by conducting frequent discussions around career growth, personal goals, and performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in building effective teams, creating strong morale and spirit amongst all team members.
  • Ability to develop and oversee implementation of work programs with competing priorities, anticipating, and adjusting for problems and roadblocks. Manages the work and sets priorities while keeping focus on accomplishing the overall goals of CSS and KCIT.
  • Ability to navigate complicated sets of challenges with limited information and can cope with change and handle many things at once. Has the ability to make decisions without having the total picture and is looked to for direction when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet internal and external customers’ expectations; gathers and utilizes customer feedback to improve the value of the products and services delivered.
  • Ability to comfortably delegate routine and important tasks and decisions where appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process gaps, suggest solutions, and produce tangible outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform analysis and develop metrics to evaluate performance trends and results.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally or in writing, with clarity and precision, including the ability to communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Skilled at building consensus and coming to resolution among a diverse group of individuals that may have differing viewpoints and influencing others to act.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, while gaining their trust and respect.
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize and present information to management.
  • Understanding of Equity and Social Justice principles

Additional Information

Hybrid Work: The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of onsite work and telecommuting.

Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Work Schedule: The normal work week for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is FLSA Exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay.
