Job Description

Summary

This job involves digging into data from various sources, building databases and dashboards to make sense of it, and creating reports to help city leaders make better decisions on community safety.

It's a senior role where you'll guide junior staff and suggest improvements in how data is handled.

A good fit would be someone with strong analytical skills, experience in data tools, and a background in tech or related fields who enjoys turning numbers into actionable insights.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Six (6) years of related work experience in data analysis or management
  • Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain eligibility (no disqualifying criminal history)
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, and/or SQL (preferred)
  • Experience with JIRA and Agile Frameworks (preferred)
  • CompTIA Data+ certification (preferred)
  • Proficiency with ESRI or other GIS software and geospatial data analysis (preferred)

Full Job Description

Under general direction, is responsible performing a variety of technical tasks for identifying, capturing, analyzing, managing, and presenting data. Contributes to decision-making and planning to include conceptualization and modeling of data of high complexity. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.

7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Requirements

  • Catalogs existing data sources.
  • Designs, creates, and maintains relational databases and data systems.
  • Works with internal and public open datasets, including populating, extracting, and scrubbing data.
  • Designs reporting dashboards to translate data to an understandable illustrative format.
  • Creates data visualizations and reports to present to a variety of audiences using presentation tools.
  • Fulfills ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Recommends analytic opportunities and best practices to management.
  • Oversees access to resident and external data sources.
  • Organizes data supply chain for testing and production.
  • Prototypes and co-designs data analysis systems and recommends solutions.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Six (6) years of related work experience
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

    Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

    PREFERRED:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in information technology or computer science.
    • Experience with JIRA and Agile Frameworks.
    • CompTIA Data+ certification
    • Proficient in programming languages, specifically Python, R, and/or SQL
    • Proficient with ESRI or other GIS software and geospatial data analysis.
    • Proficient with PowerBi or DAX.
    Applicant Information

    Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

    One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

    One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
