About the Position: This position is located in Headquarters U.S. AFRICA Command (AFRICOM), Office of the Commander - J0.

The incumbent serves as a Senior Strategist for the Commander's Action Group (CAG), a cross-functional team of special assistants who function at the strategic level of staff operations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to GS-13 which includes providing strategic executive support, strategic communication, senior leader engagement, and research/analysis for senior level officials (i.e.

Commander, Flag Officer, SES) as it relates to a variety of unusual conditions, problems, and/or questions to improve organizational efficiency, effectiveness and stakeholder satisfaction.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Manages and Organizes Information Planning and Evaluating Strategic Thinking Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

Major Duties:

  • Provides independent, multi-disciplinary analysis of topics of immediate relevance to Commander’s decision-making which require a deeper/unconventional look.
  • Conducts special projects to address strategic issues requiring innovative solutions and/or of an exceptionally sensitive nature as assigned by the Commander.
  • Synthesizes the command’s strategic message, as directed by the Commander, though speech writing, and oral and/or written communication to the staff.
  • Analyzes plans to determine the impact on administrative processes and the feasibility of making modifications to accomplish mission requirements.
  • Synchronizes staff activities and guides staff action officers in preparing, producing, and delivering clear, concise, and complete read ahead materials for the commander in support of travel planning and strategic communication objectives.
  • Consolidates data as necessary and reviews to ensure accomplishment of objectives, timeliness, and acceptability.
  • Analyzes work processes, special studies, evaluates Commander’s Action Group program operations to identify problems, inefficiencies, and develop recommendations for solutions.
  • Coordinates closely with other staff elements and other U.S. Government agencies to ensure consistency and appropriateness of messages for internal and external audiences.
  • Works the seams of the staff to strengthen integration and engages outside of normal staff lanes to facilitate the interaction necessary to encourage collaborative fusion of staff efforts.
