Requirements

In this position, you will oversee the activities and workload of more than four Water Quality Specialists and one Soils Scientist across the 15 counties served by the regional office. Your duties will include managing inspections of NPDES-permitted facilities, such as sewage treatment plants, industrial wastewater treatment sites, and stormwater industrial facilities, along with any additional facilities as assigned. You will be responsible for ensuring timely and comprehensive investigations of pollution incidents that could impact public health or water quality. Furthermore, you will provide written or verbal follow-ups on investigations and inspections to ensure compliance with relevant permits, laws, and regulations. In cases where voluntary compliance is not achieved or environmental damage has occurred, you will refer matters for legal action.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,736 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges and abilities.


Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.


Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
