Requirements

As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, you will operate a sequential batch reactor and various sewage lift stations throughout the facility and adjacent municipalities.

You will be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment such as motors, pumps, and disinfection systems.

You will also conduct sampling and laboratory analysis for various parameters, as well as recording daily flow and logging data to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

In addition, you will be expected to follow emergency response protocols and adhere to safety regulations.

This position requires a high level of responsibility and attention to detail to ensure the proper functioning of the facility and its connected municipalities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, rotating weekends and holidays, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime as operationally necessary
  • As an essential employee, you will be required to work during emergencies and office closings.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) program and certification as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant; or
  • Possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant.


Special Requirements:
  • You must be in possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than a Class B, Subclass E, 1 and 4 Certification.
  • You must be in possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must pass a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction removed within one year of employment, and maintain it throughout employment.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Formal training in wastewater management.
  • Experience in the operation of a Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of motors, pumps, compressors, valves, filters, and/or other related WWTP equipment.
  • Experience in performing sampling/testing of plant influent or effluent for environmental protection.
