Full Job Description
Assist with weekly progress and final inspections of encroachment permits, maintenance contracts, and strategic goals for compliance with SCDOT Guidelines. Reports findings to supervisor as needed. Performs daytime inspections (bi-annual primary routes, and annual secondary routes) in accordance with EDM 8. This includes routine inspections of shoulder/ditch, high/low shoulder plans, pavement markings, signs, dead trees, drainage structures, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and other road features. Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors to include mowing cycles (primary and secondary routes), street sweeping, and all other maintenance contracts as needed. Completes written daily diaries, enters daily data in HMMS, responds to and corrects HMMS data as needed, tracks and files pertinent maintenance contract information. Updates reports as needed, inputs data to track strategical goals. Assist in formal walk-through inspections of all guardrails, cable barriers, and crash attenuators located within Beaufort County. Complies with EDM 42 in accordance with the Department manual for inspection and repair guidelines. Completes inspection forms, maintains detailed HMMS daily work reports and work requests. Ensures that internal and external damage claims, and FOIA requests are processed properly and efficiently. Ensures that contract quantities, PO's and invoices are accurate. Required to assist during inclement weather and other emergencies. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise. Works 40 hours per week under normal conditions. Works outside in heavy traffic and all weather conditions. Subject to dust, excessive noise and traffic hazards for extended periods of time. Requires lifting, standing, stooping, bending, and physical strain. Works overtime as necessary.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
