Full Job Description

This position Training Manager (ASM) is part of the HR division within the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT).

In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the newly formed training division for the agency.

The Training Manager will oversee the day-to-day functions of the training division which will involve evaluating educational needs within NDOT and developing the necessary curriculum or overseeing the selection process of a training vendor.

They will also be responsible for ensuring that NDOT staff members stay in compliance with mandatory training initiatives.

Additionally, they will serve a key role in creating a career path training and development program for NDOT staff, which consists of over 500 employees.

This position reports to the Human Resources Manager over HR, Safety and Training. Performs related duties as assigned.

The Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure delivers a range of services, and the nearly 400 employees work around the clock to ensure a multimodal system that offers choice and better connects neighborhoods, residents, businesses and visitors to the place that they need and want to go to in a safe manner. These employees are responsible for over 2,200 miles of public roadways and rights-of-way, over 6,000 streets, over 300 bridges, 835 traffic signals and over 1,200 miles of bike/sidewalk lanes and much more. Big events in Nashville consist of CMA Festival, Stanley Cup Finals, Titans games, and any number of special events. These require big preparation and big clean-up, and the Nashville Department of Transportation employees are up for the challenge.

Requirements

  • Oversees the day-to-day activities with the NDOT Training division.
  • Meets with NDOT management to assess staff training needs within the department and develops corresponding curriculum.
  • Performs assessments on NDOT staff members to develop a comprehensive career development/ladder program focusing to enhance an employee's skill set and spur professional growth.
  • Interviews vendors and determines if their training programs align with NDOT strategies and needs.
  • Maintains records on employee participation and attendance in mandatory and other departmental training courses.
  • Measures the effectiveness of training programs and makes improvements.
  • Conducts research on various topics to develop content for training courses.
  • Develops an NDOT management/leadership development training program.
  • Uses course development software to create classroom/virtual presentations.
  • Conducts classes virtually and in person for diverse educational and experience levels throughout the department.
  • Creates an employee satisfaction survey, tracks results and creates training courses to address concerns.
  • Works with a learning management system (LMS) to track class attendance, schedule employees into training classes, run reports and uses the data to monitor and update KPIs related to NDOT’s strategic plan.
  • Creates and maintains the NDOT training schedule.
  • Aligns training efforts with current NDOT strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Manages training division staff members.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree plus five (5) years of professional experience in field of training and development which includes assessing training needs, developing curriculums and conducting classes, including three (3) years of verifiable management experience.

Additional Information

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge using a Learning Management System
  • Knowledge in Adobe Captivate, Articulate, or similar online development application
  • Previous experience conducting training classes for a diverse learning group
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite programs and software dedicate to classroom instruction and design.
  • Familiar with standard HR practices, policies and procedures
