Full Job Description

The Grants Coordinator plays a critical role in securing funding to support the strategic initiatives of the Mayor’s Office and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. This position is responsible for identifying, researching, and pursuing grant opportunities that align with administration priorities and citywide strategic goals.

Reporting to the Director of Advancement and Strategic Partnerships, the Grants Coordinator collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop compelling grant proposals that clearly articulate community need, measurable impact, and long-term sustainability. This role requires exceptional writing skills, relationship-building skills, and the ability to convey the city’s vision and project goals effectively to funders.


Mayoral staff (non-civil service) receive 15 days of Paid Time Off and 12 sick days annually.

Starting salary is commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • Research, track and evaluate potential grant opportunities from federal, state, local, and private funding sources
  • Assess the alignment of grant opportunities with administration priorities, departmental needs, and strategic objectives
  • Write compelling, persuasive, and compliant grant proposals that clearly articulate project goals, methodologies, and anticipated outcomes
  • Collaborate with Mayor’s Office staff, department leadership, and external partners to develop or assist in the development of grant proposals
  • Ensure all proposals meet funder requirements, adhere to applicable regulations, and are submitted on time
  • Coordinate the collection and preparation of necessary documentation and supporting materials for grant submissions
  • Serve as a liaison between the Mayor’s Office, city departments, partners, and stakeholders throughout the grant development process
  • Facilitate meetings and communications among stakeholders to ensure alignment, accountability, and timely completion of deliverables
  • Project manage the proposal development process, engaging departmental and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement and Strategic Partnerships to offer training, resources, and support to city departments to enhance their ability to identify and pursue grant opportunities
  • Stay informed of trends, best practices, and emerging funding strategies and share knowledge with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain a library of grant writing resources, including templates and past successful proposals

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in successful grant writing OR high school diploma/equivalent with six years of experience in successful grant writing.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED


  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Strong research abilities to identify funding opportunities and understand grant guidelines
  • Familiarity with municipal government operations and community needs
  • Relevant professional certification(s) (e.g., CGMS, GPCI, CFRE, CGFM, etc.)
  • Knowledge of federal and state grant programs and experience with 2 CFR 200 requirements, procurement standards, and compliance practices
  • Experience addressing strategic issues in grant administration operations including issues with complex political and programmatic elements
  • Proficiency in using grant management software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community organizations, and private partners
