As a college intern tasked with managing high school students engaged in technology projects, your role will be dynamic and multifaceted. You will serve as a mentor, guiding students through the intricacies of their projects while fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. Your responsibilities will include providing technical guidance, assisting with project planning and execution, facilitating group discussions, and offering constructive feedback to help students refine their ideas and develop their skills.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Duties assigned are primarily training or entry-level, routine and restricted in complexity and scope with little or no discretion in how they are carried out and the work product is subject to continual review. Requires consultation with supervisor on matters not specifically covered in the guidelines.
Requirements
- Develop comprehensive training modules and materials tailored to the needs of youth audiences, focusing on personal growth and project management skills.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training materials and methodologies through participant feedback, performance assessments, and outcome measurements, adjusting as needed to improve impact and relevance.
- Facilitate brainstorming sessions and group discussions to generate ideas, develop project plans, and establish achievable goals and timelines in alignment with departmental objectives.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to youth team members, offering resources, tools, and strategies to enhance their project management skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork dynamics.
- Coordinate with departmental leaders and stakeholders to ensure alignment between youth-led projects and organizational priorities, securing necessary resources, approvals, and support for successful implementation.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among youth team members, departmental staff, and external partners, facilitating regular meetings, updates, and feedback loops to maintain momentum and resolve issues as they arise.
- Monitor project progress and performance against established milestones and metrics, tracking outcomes, documenting lessons learned, and adjusting as needed to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Completion of six (6) credit hours of college and current enrollment in a college program leading to a bachelor's degree in education, technology, business or related major. Enrollment must be in an accredited learning institute. Continued enrollment in a college program is a condition of employment as a Travis County intern.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: Valid Texas Driver’s License
Knowledge of:
•Federal, State, Local and County applicable laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines relating to assigned function.
•Planning and research methodology relating to assigned function.
•Standard theory, principles, practices, and techniques relating to assigned function.
•Computer equipment to include Windows, PowerPoint, Word and Excel or similar programs, is required, databases, and a variety of software packages.
•Business letter writing, grammar and punctuation, and report preparation.
Skill in:
•Explaining complicated technical problems in simple non-technical language.
•Problem-solving and decision-making.
•Interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to:
•Manage time well, perform and prioritize multiple tasks, organize diverse activities, develop, and implement research and projects related to assigned function.
•Meet deadlines and produce projects in a timely manner while working on several projects at once.
•Work as a team member within a diverse organization.
•Research, compile, analyze, interpret, and prepare a variety of memorandums or reports.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees and officials, representatives of outside agencies, and the public.
Additional Information
Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 10 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, and squatting to perform the essential functions.
Work Hours: 8 am - 5 pm, Monday-Friday.
