Summary

This entry-level IT specialist role in the U.S.

Department of Justice involves providing technical support to users, troubleshooting software and hardware issues, and helping with tasks like installing updates and setting up online meetings.

Key Requirements

GS-7:. To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.

Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level.

Specialized experience is defined as: experience that has equipped you with the competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

Examples of specialized experience include experience providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; Coordinate teleconference and distance learning activities; Installing new upgraded software; Collaborate to configure using knowledge of network standards and protocols.

OR Education: One (1) full year of graduate education in a degree program such as computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, operations research, or technology management or that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

OR Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.

GS-9:. To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level.

OR Education: Possess one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g.

Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree AND this education must be either in one of the following fields OR provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.

OR Combined education/experience: Have a combination of specialized experience as described in A and graduate education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.

(Only graduate education in excess of 1 full year is creditable.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for performing a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day operations and administration of Information Technology (IT) systems within the Office of the United States Attorney.

Typical work assignments will include: Provide IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems.

Provide user training and assistance on a variety of routine applications.

Provide a variety of technical support services to coordinate teleconferences and distance learning activities to effectively deliver legal training using electronic and/or telecommunications media.

Install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot commonly used hardware and software systems within the organization.

Assist in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems using knowledge of network including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware.

Maintain and control assigned telecommunications systems using knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control and operation of telecommunications systems.

Perform ongoing network monitoring and management to include diagnosis of recurring network problems and service interrupts.

Assist customers and clients in identifying and describing IT requirements for business and legal applications. Install routine updates and patches to existing programs.

Participates in testing and implementation of the information security program.

Perform routine assignments and segments of projects related to technical planning, design, development, testing, implementation, and management of Web sites.

Administers the District's property and material control program of equipment, furniture, forms, supplies, etc., to include analyzing and developing an inventory controls system.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
