Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead social worker in a military hospital's substance abuse program, where you'll oversee a team, provide therapy and assessments for service members with addiction issues, and guide on behavioral health policies.

It's ideal for an experienced licensed social worker who enjoys supervising others and working in a fast-paced medical environment focused on helping people recover from substance use disorders.

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
  • One year of specialized experience at GS-11 level, including psychosocial evaluations, individual/group therapy, and leading teams
  • Current, active, unrestricted clinical license to practice social work independently in a U.S. state or jurisdiction
  • Ability to plan, organize, and assign work to subordinates while setting priorities and schedules
  • Skills in providing guidance on behavioral health, substance disorders, and clinical consultations
  • Experience evaluating employee performance and offering counseling on work and administrative matters

About the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California.

Individual Occupational Requirement for Social Worker: Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

  • Serve as a Supervisory Social Worker in Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) Department of a Defense Health Agency (DHA) Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Independently plan and carry out assigned duties in accordance with accepted professional Social Work theories, techniques and professional practice standards.
  • Provide guidance to the SARP Associate Department Head regarding policy and processes related to Behavioral Health issues, substance disorders, psychological and clinical consultation.
  • Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
  • Plan and organize work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts long and short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work and assign work to subordinates based on priorities.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates, give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
