This job involves leading a team as a naval architect focused on the design, building, and fixing of nuclear submarines in a government shipbuilding operation.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Supervisory Naval Architect in the Engineering Department of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING GROTON.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level/pay band NH-02 (GS-11) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer working with construction and repair of submarines sufficient to: advise on structural design methods; make final decisions to resolve work problems; identify and address both technical and administrative impacts regarding structural engineering and design programs; and implement continuous process improvement initiatives and mitigate technical risk ensuring milestones are met and stakeholders are engaged.

  • You will administer contracts for the design, construction, conversion and repair of nuclear submarines.
  • You will work closely with the Chief Engineer, other Engineering managers and program Office manages to assure consistency and continuity in submarine design and supporting requirements.
  • You will act as the technical expert relating to submarine structural design.
  • You will resolve submarine construction or repair problems.
