Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team in the EPA's Superfund program to prevent environmental hazards and ensure compliance with regulations, focusing on planning, oversight, and technical advice in New Jersey.

It's a supervisory role where you'll manage staff, represent the agency, and handle enforcement activities related to pollution cleanup.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 level in leading environmental protection programs, particularly Superfund enforcement

  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and technical expertise related to Superfund and prevention programs
  • Competencies in incident management, planning and evaluating, and representing the agency with external organizations
  • Ability to physically report to the office in Edison, New Jersey on a regular basis
  • Experience in paid, unpaid, or volunteer work that builds relevant skills, including part-time experience prorated accordingly

Full Job Description

This position is in Region 2, Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Response and Prevention Branch, Prevention Section.

This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis. About Region 2: https://www.epa.gov/aboutepa/epa-region-2.

NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement.

In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level defined as providing leadership, oversight or technical expertise for an environmental protection program of limited scope in the Superfund program; experience in Superfund enforcement activities; and coaching, mentoring or leading others.

You will need the following competencies in order to perform the duties of this position successfully: Incident Management. Planning and Evaluating.* Leadership. Managing Employees.

Environmental Laws and Regulations.* Technical Knowledge (Related to Position).* *You will be evaluated on these critical competencies.

You will: Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the organizational unit, ensuring that they comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.

Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represent the Agency with a variety of functional area organizations.

Serve as a technical advisor and assistant to the Second-Level Supervisor on issues pertaining to the management of prevention and compliance programs.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
