Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading a team of firefighters as an Assistant Fire Chief at a Navy base, focusing on shipboard fire safety, emergency response training, and supervising daily operations to protect personnel and assets.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-10 level or equivalent, including shipboard fire suppression, incident safety officer duties, fire prevention program evaluation, shipboard response training, and supervisory responsibilities
  • Possess Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, and Hazmat Incident Commander certifications from DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard
  • Complete Marine Firefighter certification within one year of appointment
  • Demonstrated ability to advise command on fire protection and emergency response
  • Experience training firefighters in shipboard, structural, confined space, and hazardous materials procedures
  • Skills in managing personnel, assigning work, evaluating performance, and resolving disciplinary issues

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter (Assistant Fire Chief) in the Fire & Emergency Services of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Shipboard fire suppression; 2) Support emergency operations as incident safety officer; 3) Evaluate shipboard fire prevention program to identify gaps in risk assessments; 4) Conduct training and advise ship leadership for shipboard response and support while in port; and 5) Perform supervisory duties such as managing, organizing, directing, providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues.

This experience must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position.

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II and Hazmat Incident Commander.

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.

If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached a copy of your transcript or certifications, you will be rated ineligible.

Employee shall complete Marine Firefighter certification within one year.

  • You will advise the command and senior leadership on fire protection and related emergency response activities.
  • You will train firefighters on shipboard, structural, confined space, and hazardous materials firefighting procedures.
  • You will collaborate with fire fighter personnel to ensure emergency responses (e.g., fire suppression, injured victims, hazardous spill cleanup) are assigned.
  • You will act as a liaison with other agencies to establish, modify, and oversee all mutual aid agreements dealing with emergency response capabilities.
  • You will maintain awareness of changes in federal, state, or local fire service ordinances and laws to convey information to junior employees.
  • You will oversee the Battalion Chiefs development of junior firefighters, employees' annual goals, and objectives performance review.
