Summary

This paid summer internship with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture lets students work in the Wholesale Food Safety Administration, where they'll learn about food safety rules, review labels, handle business registrations, and even join inspections in the field.

It's based at the State Farmers Market in West Columbia and focuses on practical experience in agriculture and food compliance.

Full Job Description

The SC Department of Agriculture has a
SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
available within our Wholesale Food Safety Administration for
students seeking a degree in agriculture, wholesale food safety, or a similar field.

Wholesale Food Safety Administration – Campus of the State Farmers Market in West Columbia.

As part of this internship, you will learn the regulatory intricacies of food safety and compliance, to include food labeling laws, assisting with label reviews, processing registration applications, corresponding with prospective food manufacturers and businesses and gathering documents for grant audits.

You will also have the opportunity to job shadow Wholesale Food Safety Officers on inspections in the field.


Requirements

Must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior or attending graduate school for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, MS Power Point and Outlook email and Outlook calendar.
  • Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Additional Information
