Job Description

Summary

This paid summer internship with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture's Feed Safety Administration lets students work on regulating commercial animal feed to ensure it's safe and compliant with laws.

You'll help review labels and applications, check lab reports, track compliance, and even join inspectors in the field to collect samples at feed manufacturing sites.

It's ideal for agriculture or related students who are organized, good with computers, and interested in hands-on food safety work.

  • Must be a rising sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student for the 2026-2027 academic year
  • Pursuing a degree in agriculture, feed safety, or a similar field
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook (email and calendar)
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Housing is the responsibility of the selected candidate; no stipend provided

Full Job Description

The SC Department of Agriculture has a
SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
available within our Feed Safety Administration for
students seeking a degree in agriculture, feed safety, or a similar field.

Feed Safety Administration – Campus of the State Farmers Market in West Columbia

As part of this internship, you will learn the importance of commercial animal feed regulation and compliance.

This includes commercial animal feed laws, assisting with feed label reviews and product registration applications, preparing and reviewing program documentation, interpreting laboratory sample reports, and tracking compliance actions.

You will also have the opportunity to shadow feed inspectors conducting field work, including routine sample collection and inspections at facilities that manufacture and distribute commercial animal feed.


Requirements

Must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior or attending graduate school for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, MS Power Point and Outlook email and Outlook calendar.
  • Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Additional Information

Housing is the responsibility of selected candidate, and no stipend is provided.
