This position requires a sound knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and policies, especially tax laws. The Revenue Auditor is expected to communicate effectively on behalf of the City with CPAs, tax attorneys and business owners and managers on the interpretation and impact of laws, regulations, and policies.What You'll Get to Do:
- Conduct audits requiring the application of legal knowledge and principles.
- Plan, organize, and conduct revenue audits to ensure the effective reporting and collection of all required taxes and fees.
- Research a variety of topics and prepare comprehensive financial analysis and revenue estimates, if needed, on the research performed.
- Apply general, enterprise and governmental accounting including GAAP and FASB accounting standards and GAAS.

Requirements
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
- Experience applying the principles of general, enterprise and governmental accounting, including GAAP and FASB accounting standards and GAAS.
- Experience applying federal and state tax laws and regulations and tax court decisions.
- Experience applying City and County codes (or similar tax laws), identifying incorrect data, and understanding if taxes are being paid appropriately through application of appropriate tax laws, codes, or regulations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and reaching sound conclusions and recommendations in accordance with laws, regulations, rules, and policies.
- Ability to understand, interpret, explain, and apply City and County codes/ordinances (or similar tax laws) to interested parties.
- Experience planning, organizing, and conducting sound, comprehensive tax and financial audits.
A common way to meet these qualifications include experience that is equivalent to obtaining a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or finance, and three (3) years of progressively responsible audit experience.An Ideal Candidate will have:- Experience in a public agency is preferred.
