This position will be assigned to the JBSA Fort Sam Houston Fitness Center. This is a Regular Full-time category position with guaranteed 40 hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which provides a comprehensive knowledge of routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs; and experience with recreational activities and equipment, rules and procedure in a recreation program involving sports and fitness.
Must have experience in performing minor preventative maintenance on indoor and outdoor recreational equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Knowledge of utilization and operation of fitness equipment. 2. Ability to read, write and speak English. 3. Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Major Duties:
Applies technical knowledge and skill in minor preventive maintenance and use of all recreational materials and fitness equipment providing assistance and support to the Sports Specialist.
Assists in the evaluation and set-up of all new fitness and recreation equipment. Tests sports activity exercise equipment for safe operation.
Performs preventative maintenance as necessary such as but is not limited to: lubricating and cleaning equipment, replacing belts, performing minor repair to computer monitors on exercise equipment and replacing or repairing lights in score boards.
Identifies problems or symptoms of problems and if major repair is needed follows established procedures by contacting vendors and/or company representative for guidance.
Checks warranties prior to requesting or performing repairs. Utilizes machines, diagram schematics and equipment instruction booklets to perform these functions.
Sets up gymnasiums and playing fields for sports events, tournaments and practice games when such assignments require a practical knowledge of the rules and procedures of such activities.
Inspects outdoor recreation, fitness and sports facilities and equipment to assure safe conditions and cleanliness.
Maintains security of equipment and takes inventory of recreational supplies and equipment. As necessary, demonstrates equipment use and techniques of various fitness equipment.
Helps with group activities which requires more than one staff monitor, performing specifically assigned tasks.
Operates government motor vehicles to pick up and deliver materials and equipment to fitness centers and work stations.
The employee independently makes adjustments and/or order deviations when necessary to get the job done. Performs other related duties as assigned.
