Full Job Description

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Ft. Sam Houston Fitness Center located in San Antonio, TX. This is a Regular Part Time category position with guaranteed 20 hrs.

per week. Employees appointed to a Regular category position are eligible for benefits. Who May Apply: Open to everyone.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which provided a working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs and practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational activities and equipment and rules and procedures in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of sports and fitness.

Must demonstrate knowledge of utilization and operation of basic fitness equipment. Must have Basic computer knowledge. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): 1.

Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and the public. 2. Ability to operate a cash register. 3. Ability to resolved common arithmetic problems when receiving payment.

Performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in support of the day-to-day operation of the Fort Sam Houston Fitness Centers. Will lead up to 4 employees.

Sets up gymnasiums and playing fields for sports events, tournaments, and practice games. Formulates individual fitness improvement programs for patrons.

Serves as desk attendant ensuring only authorized patrons use the facility and equipment.

Greets visitors, answers telephones, makes reservations for classes or use of equipment and facilities, and provides information on scheduled events and classes.

Provides assistance and basic instruction to patrons in the proper use of exercise machines and equipment. Teach group exercise classes, i.e. Step aerobics, Pilates, etc. as needed.

Tests equipment for safe operation. Issues sports equipment and completes required documentation for transaction. Inspects returned equipment noting damage.

Inspects all equipment and facilities according to established standards and local fire and safety procedures. Reports damaged exercise equipment to supervisor.

Conducts cleaning of machines as necessary. Receives payment and issues change for services. Prepares cashier reports and makes daily deposits to central cashier.

Performs opening and closing procedures of facilities IAW written guidelines. Assists in setting up and cleaning of facilities, grounds and equipment for programs and special functions.

May operate a government vehicle to include light truck, sedan, golf cart etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
