This job involves managing the day-to-day operations of several city-run farmers' markets in Pittsburgh, acting as the main contact for vendors and visitors to keep everything running smoothly and ensure everyone has a good experience.

Full Job Description

The Farmers Market Coordinator is responsible for the operations of the City of Pittsburgh-run Farmers Markets. This individual will be the point of contact for vendors and patrons and will work to ensure that markets run on time and that all parties have a positive market experience.


The current City Farmers Markets include:

Squirrel Hill Sundays from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM

East End (Liberty Green Park) Mondays from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM

Carrick (Carrick Pavilion) Wednesdays from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM

North Side (Allegheny Commons Park) Fridays from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM

    Qualifying Requirements:
    Your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will receive notice of your eligibility status via email.

    WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience developing, implementing, and administering special events, programs and/or initiatives to varied age groups and populations (e.g., youth, families, children, and adults).

    (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)

  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor’s Degree in business, sustainability, agriculture, policy, social work, or communications correlated field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)
  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement of five (5) years for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above).

Additional Information

  • Serve as the main point of contact to market vendors and communicate with them regarding vendor application status, vending locations, market logistics, collection of vendor fees, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise for vendors throughout the market season.

  • Manage a team of 2-3 individuals that are tending to the day to day needs of market vendors and customers.

  • Work with the team on a weekly basis to develop overall operational strategy and troubleshoot issues that may come up in the day-to-day operations of the Farmer’s Markets.

  • Resolves any vendor/customer conflicts, issues, etc. in a professional manner.

  • Work with our partner Just Harvest, to ensure that the SNAP Benefits system is operating smoothly.

  • Manage and participate in any citywide initiatives that could impact the Farmers Markets.

  • Manage the upkeep and use of the Farmers Market van and inventory/purchasing of materials needed at the Farmers Market.

  • Handle the bulk of the administrative functions of the market including website updates, billing and receiving.

  • Communicate with CitiPark's leadership any needs that emerge for the markets including any larger issue that need to be solved.

  • Build strong working relationships with vendors and any community organizations that support the Farmer’s Markets.

  • Periodically check in with the on the ground staff of the Farmers Markets and step in to work at the markets as needed.

  • Assist with the marketing effort to raise awareness of the City Farmers Markets.

  • Organizes records, and complies with all federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Commits to the market and believes in the value of local and fresh food. 

  • Performs other duties as requested or required.
