Job Description

Summary

This job involves maintaining and repairing complex machinery like CNC machine tools, molding equipment, and melting systems at a naval shipyard in Pennsylvania.

You'll troubleshoot issues, perform preventive maintenance, and sometimes lead a small team to keep production running smoothly.

  • Capability to direct the work of assigned workers and assist trades personnel
  • Demonstrated quality of experience and training meeting OPM standards for trades and labor occupations

Full Job Description

You will serve as a PRODUCTION MACHINERY MECHANIC in the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (1400) (NFPC) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO PROVIDE PRODUCTION SUPPORT SERVICES: Ability to overhaul, troubleshoot, repair, install, perform preventative maintenance on computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools, molding, and melting equipment.

Ability to understand hydraulic systems which include servo drives, counterbalance, hydrostatic systems with flow control, sequencing and speed control valves, hydrostatic balancing, bearing and worm drive systems, metered lubrication systems.

Ability to read and interpret specifications, drawings, blueprints, and sketches in order to visualize objects in three dimensions.

Ability to utilize automatically programmed tools computer programming system techniques.

  • You will overhaul, troubleshoot, repair, install and perform regulatory scheduled preventative maintenance inspections on a range of complex numerical controls (CNC) and corrections of machined tools, moldings, melting and other machinery equipment.
  • You will perform troubleshooting, repair, installation, overhaul and preventative maintenance.
  • You will diagnose machine failure as either mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic or a combination of these and take corrective action to correct the malfunction.
  • You will direct the work of assigned workers as well as personnel in assist trades involved in the job.
