Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing the planning and scheduling of ship construction and maintenance projects at a naval shipyard, ensuring all work is coordinated, risks are managed, and teams are guided effectively.

It's a supervisory role where you'll lead a team, review schedules, and brief higher-ups on progress.

A good fit would be someone with experience in project management for large-scale construction or engineering projects, especially in defense or manufacturing, who enjoys leading others and handling complex logistics.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 or NJ-03 in preparing schedules for ship construction projects, including integration of Alteration Installation Teams (AIT) and monitoring unplanned work
  • Knowledge of ship overhaul processes, including In-Service and New Construction CVNs (aircraft carriers)
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies for production work
  • Experience reviewing contract actions, funding, and managing changes in shipyard projects
  • Proficiency in overseeing integration of production, planning, and test phases into an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)
  • Supervisory skills to plan, assign, and adjust work priorities for subordinates, including providing guidance on work and administrative matters
  • Strong communication skills for preparing briefings to project supervisors, officers, and ship teams

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PRODUCTION CONTROLLER (SHIPS) in the WATERFRONT OPERATIONS DEPT (150) of SUPSHIP.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, NJ-03 (or GS-11 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector preparing or developing schedules for the execution of ship construction projects for an organization (e.g., facilitate integration/management of Alteration Installation Team (AIT); monitor unplanned work; planning and execution of processes; installation certification and final closeout).

  • You will review the Integrated Master Schedule and/or Availability Work Package (AWP) to ensure all non-contract funded maintenance providers or Alteration Installation Team (AIT) work is identified.
  • You will ensure that all work is in accordance with applicable instructions and invoked guidance for In-Service and New Construction CVNs.
  • You will conduct ongoing risk assessment of all work and make recommendations for risk mitigation strategies.
  • You will review contract actions and processes for funding and managing of contract changes.
  • You will oversee integration of all non-shipyard production, planning, and test phases of the overhaul or availability into Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • You will prepare and provide briefings to the SUPSHIPNN Project Supervisor, Assistant Project Officers, and Ships Force New Construction team.
  • You will plan and supervise work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • You will advise and provide guidance to employees of both work and administrative matters.
