Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a senior engineer at a naval shipyard, focusing on the design, maintenance, and operation of nuclear-powered ships and their support systems.

You'll lead teams to solve complex technical problems, review technical documents, and ensure everything meets safety standards.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Senior Nuclear Engineer in the Nuclear Facilitites and Waste Engineering Division (Code 2380), Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department (Code 2300) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying engineering concepts, theories, principles, practices and techniques related to the design, installation, operation and maintenance of nuclear powered naval vessels, support and auxiliary systems and support facilities.

Experience organizing and leading teams to plan and execute complex projects, resolve highly complex technical issues and integrate the work of several support organizations to meet schedule constraint.

Experience interpreting/evaluating engineering drawings/specifications/technical data packages as well as the planning/construction of nuclear facilities.

Experience providing Submarine Tender support, AS (X) design and Corporate DMD support.

  • You will prepare, review and approve of off station correspondence to resolve drawing, procedure, or equipment problems, or to propose improvements.
  • You will give on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
  • You will prepare, review, and approve technical work and administrative documents in support of reactor plant procedures for technical content, radiological controls, and compliance with all NAVSERA technical and safety requirements.
