Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team to manage radiation safety programs for naval shipyard operations in Japan, including overseeing repairs, training, and emergency responses to protect workers and the environment.

It's a supervisory role focused on ensuring safe handling of radioactive materials in a military setting.

A good fit would be someone with extensive experience in nuclear engineering or health physics, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work in a remote overseas location with limited medical access.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-14 level or equivalent in radiological work management, including propulsion plant repair and radioactive material control
  • Basic education requirements for Nuclear Engineering (Series 0840) or Health Physics (Series 1306) as per OPM standards
  • Experience in on-site management of radiological control for facility maintenance and technical document reviews
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness and active participation in Radiological Emergency Response Programs
  • Ability to establish and implement policies for radiological control programs
  • Supervisory experience in directing radiological control personnel and quality assurance
  • Willingness to work in Yokosuka, Japan, with limited access to medical and dental care

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPV NUCLEAR ENGINEER/HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Radiological Control Office in the Yokosuka Detachment of PSNS and IMF.

Please see Additional Information section below.*** In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing on-site management control of radiological work involved in propulsion plant repair, facility maintenance, technical work document reviews, radioactive material control; emergency preparedness; and active participation in the Radiological Emergency Response Program.

  • You will serve as Director of Radiological Control for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS and IMF), Yokosuka Detachment.
  • You will establish and/or implement policies regarding the management of a radiological control program.
  • You will monitor functions, and maintenance of the radiological control training programs to include training, retention testing, and drills.
  • You will supervise a radiological quality control program to verify safety and reliability of operations to ensure the protection of the public/ environment.
  • You will provide and exercise direct administrative and technical supervision over detachment radiological control personnel.
