This job involves driving light and medium vehicles like trucks and cars to transport people, materials, and equipment, while also handling tasks such as loading/unloading, emptying trash, maintaining grounds with motorized cutters, and preparing snow-melting materials during winter.
Workers perform manual labor when not driving and must follow safety rules to keep vehicles and work areas clean and secure.
It's a good fit for reliable Boston residents with a clean driving record and at least one year of hands-on experience in vehicle operation or similar manual work.
Operates light and medium automotive and other motor equipment not requiring special skills, under supervision of job titles in a higher rank.
Operates a passenger car, station wagon, half-ton pick-up truck, three-quarter ton panel truck, or other types of trucks having requirement of a Class II License by the Mass Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Operation of light and medium vehicles (see above in the general statement)
will be required and various types of motorized grass and weed cutters.
Loads and unloads trucks; transports people, material, and equipment to and from work; performs manual labor work when not operating vehicles.
Empties trash dumpsters on a daily basis.
Mix, load, and deliver ice and snow-melting materials.
Ensures vehicle and its components are in an acceptable operating condition to ensure safe revenue and non-revenue operation.
Follows appropriate work practices and operating procedures to ensure compliance with applicable health and safety codes and standards, and keeps work area and equipment and tools clean, neat, orderly, safe, and secure.
Responds to and handles Constituent Relationship Management (CMR) cases.
May use mobile technology to communicate with supervisors and inspectors regarding Constituent Relationship Management (CMR) cases.
Supports other Public Works Divisions as requested.
Performs related work as required.
Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee
Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver’s license.
Must have 1 year of experience in related field.
Must be a Boston resident.
Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on details.
