Summary
This job involves inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing motor vehicles and equipment to keep them running safely and efficiently for government use.
Workers also consult with operators and manufacturers on issues and may handle tasks like body repairs or operating snow removal gear.

Key Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in motor vehicle or equipment repair
- Ability to overhaul, rebuild, replace, or adjust gasoline and diesel engines, carburetors, distributors, alternators, generators, starters, differentials, and transmissions per manufacturer specifications
- Skills in servicing vehicles by changing/repairing tires, adjusting brakes, and cleaning/lubricating parts
- Proficiency in repairing and overhauling electrical circuits and units, including warning lights, arrowboards, electronic spreader circuits, electric motor circuits, and solenoid circuits
- Experience with body repairs, windshield, and window replacements
- Ability to operate repair equipment such as hydraulic lifts, bumper jacks, and diagnostic testing tools
- Based on assignment, operate snow removal, sanding equipment, or other specialized vehicles
Full Job Description
Incumbents of positions in this series inspect, troubleshoot and repair motor vehicles and equipment for use by agency personnel; consult with operators, manufacturers or dealers’ representatives regarding specifications or problems relating to the operation of motor vehicles and/or equipment; write repair orders and specifications for new vehicles and equipment; and perform related work as required.The basic purpose of this work is to maintain and repair motor vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Requirements
Repair motor vehicles and equipment by overhauling, rebuilding, replacing or adjusting gasoline or diesel engines, carburetors, distributors, alternators, generators, starters, differentials and transmissions according to manufacturers’ specifications.Service vehicles and equipment by changing and repairing tires, adjusting brakes and cleaning and lubricating parts as needed to ensure their optimum working order.
Repair and overhaul electrical circuits and units including all warning light circuits, arrowboards, electronic speader circuits, electric motor circuits and electric solenoid circuits.
Perform body repair and windshield and window replacements.
Based on assignment, you may also be responsible for the following:
Operate snow removal and/or sanding equipment and vehicles.
Operate other equipment used in automobile operation and repair such as hydraulic lifts, bumper jacks and diagnostic testing equipment.
