Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves leading a team of engineers at a naval research facility to study how underwater sounds from ships and submarines could make them easier to detect by enemies, and then suggesting ways to reduce those risks.
It requires overseeing technical projects, mentoring staff, and working with military and industry leaders to improve naval vessel safety.
A good fit would be an experienced engineer with a strong background in acoustics and leadership skills, passionate about national defense and team management.
You will serve as the Code 712 Branch Head for Acoustic Susceptibility of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.
The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-4 (GS-12/13) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Serving as a senior technical authority in underwater acoustics and susceptibility, providing expert leadership, personnel supervision, and active mentorship to branch engineers on complex acoustic signature modeling and measurement; directing the validation of technical studies with national impact; and representing a major engineering division while collaborating with senior stakeholders across NAVSEA, the Fleet, and industry to shape and enforce signature requirements for mission-critical platforms.
