The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is seeking an experienced Ergonomist 4 to join our DOSH Consultation Program. This is a critical employer-requested service that helps organizations proactively protect workers from work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs).
This is a senior-level, consultative role for an ergonomics professional who is ready to lead, mentor, and influence statewide impact.
You will conduct comprehensive, real-world ergonomics assessments across diverse industries and supervise a team of ergonomics consultants strengthening Washington’s workforce through prevention, partnership, and technical excellence.

For this position, teleworking is permitted on occasion dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station can be in any one of our L&I locations Statewide!!

Some of what you will do:
Lead High-Impact Ergonomics Consultations
You will conduct full-scale, on-site ergonomics evaluations in response to employer requests, identifying WMSD risk factors and developing practical, feasible solutions. Your work will directly support safer workplaces by:
Supervise and Develop Professional Staff
As a supervisory Ergonomist, you will guide and support two Ergonomic consultants by:
Promote and Advance Ergonomics Services
You will serve as a visible ambassador for DOSH Consultation by:
Shape Statewide Ergonomics Practice
You’ll collaborate with Ergonomists across L&I to strengthen and evolve consultation and assessment services, contributing to forums, workgroups, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that influence statewide practice.
Driving is required as part of this job. When a position has a driving requirement, the incumbent must drive in order to perform the duties of their position.
In fact, driving is a duty mentioned in their position description, such as an L&I inspector who drives throughout the workday to get from one location to another.
Therefore, they must use a state-issued vehicle, motor pool vehicle, or personally owned vehicle (POV) in order to perform the duties and responsibilities of their position.
Use of a POV will be reimbursed with the current mileage reimbursement rate.
