Summary

This job is for an IT specialist who handles the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer systems and networks at a military camp in Hawaii.

Key Requirements

  • Valid CompTIA Security+ certification
  • At least three years of experience in ISP circuit management, enterprise firewall management, network routing/VLANs, managed switches, Dell server management, Microsoft Active Directory, Hyper-V clustering, Microsoft Windows OS, fiber/copper infrastructure, IT procurement, and life cycle management
  • Specialized IT experience in integrating information systems, performance tuning, system diagnostics, systems administration, and IT security principles
  • Master's degree or equivalent graduate education in computer science, information systems, or related fields with relevant coursework
  • Demonstrated competencies in attention to detail, customer service, verbal communication, and problem-solving
  • Ability to plan, install, test, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware/software systems
  • Knowledge of implementing security plans, managing network access, and optimizing system functionality

This position is located at Kilauea Military Camp (KMC) Hawaii National Park, Big Island, Hawaii..

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Minimum Qualifications: Specialized IT experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training or IT certification which demonstrates skill in applying: Principles and methods for integrating information systems components; Performance tuning tools and techniques; System diagnostic tool and fault identification techniques; Systems administration methods; and IT security principles.

OR, Completion of a master's degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in computer science/engineering, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours as indicated above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Major Duties:

  • Performs work that involves planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance of hardware or software systems using standard principles, theories, concepts and methods for systems administration.
  • Implements security plans, policies, and preventive maintenance schedules. Utilizes diagnostic tools and techniques to verify operability, optimize the functionality of networks and/or systems, and to diagnose/recover failed systems.
  • Carries out routine maintenance, upgrade, and support of hardware, operating systems, and/or applications software.
  • Provides ongoing optimization and problem solving support to minimize interruptions in customers' ability to carry out critical business activities.
  • Manages network rights and access to systems and equipment. Interprets and applies information security and information assurance policy, principles, and practices in the delivery of systems administration services.
