Job Description

Summary

This job involves working on computer systems that control and steer Navy ships, specifically for a type of destroyer called DDG 51, including installing, operating, and teaching others how to use these systems.

You'll also create and update training programs based on feedback from users.

It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in IT support for complex technical equipment, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with teams.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Information Technology Specialist (APPSW) in the Ship Control Systems Testing and Installation division of NSWC PHILA DIV.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience providing support in the installation, operation, and training for ship control systems. 2.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  • You will work on Integrated Bridge Controls (IBC), Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS), Integrated Bridge and Navigation System (IBNS) and legacy ship controls systems on DDG 51 class ships.
  • You will deliver DDG 51 SCS operator and maintainer training.
  • You will develop and maintain ship control system training program, including but not limited to establishing requirements, developing curriculum, soliciting operator feedback, and performing continuous updates.
