Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping Navy personnel and their families by providing information on support services, coordinating with various organizations, and managing records and inquiries at a support center in Annapolis.

It focuses on proactive programs for military families, including those with special needs.

Full Job Description

You will serve as an INFORMATION AND REFERRAL ASSISTANT (OA) in the FLEET AND FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER (FFSC) of NSA ANNAPOLIS.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience utilizing automated resources and software such as word processing, communications, databases, and software related to the Navy's Information and Referral and Exceptional Family Member programs.

*Experience utilizing various audio-visual educational aids.

*Experience applying federal government social services policies, procedures, regulations as well as state and community social service agencies or organizations and their human service programs *Experience understanding military families, lifestyle, and associated financial needs and problems and communicating technical information to diverse audiences.

*Experience serving as a purchase card holder.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will serve as the principal professional in the FFSC for the initiation, development, and coordination of proactive programs/services in the areas of Information and Referral, Exceptional Family Member, for active duty, retired personnel, etc.
  • You will develop relationships and maintains liaisons with a broad range of local, state, civilian, military, non­profit, and private organizations to promote coordination of services and assistance for service members and their dependents.
  • You will maintain subject matter files and records that relate to the work of the FFSC and set up and maintain logs showing status of actions and correspondence and ensure files include all required documents.
  • You will receive visitors and telephone calls to the reception area, determine the nature of requests and directs callers to appropriate staff, and take requests for appointments with supervisor and staff.
  • You will respond to routine and non-technical requests for information such as status or reports, suspense dates for matters requiring compliance, and similar information readily available from files.
  • You will receive incoming correspondence, screening material prior to distribution for suspense dates, establishing controls, and following up for supervisors.
  • You will develop resource data bank of information on personal and family support services available to active duty and retired Navy personnel and their families by collecting, classifying, updating, and storing such information for ready retrieval.
