Full Job Description

The County of Sonoma Human Services Department is seeking a qualified IT professional to join their team as a Human Services Network Analyst!

Starting salary up to $66.27/hour ($138,313/year) and a competitive total compensation package!*

The Human Services Network Analyst performs complex technical duties within the IT unit of the Human Services Department and is responsible for the administration and management of any combination of the following systems, including Microsoft Office365 and Azure, Palo Alto Network technologies (FW, SD-WAN, Prisma, SASE, ZTNA), enterprise email (Exchange Online, ProofPoint Enterprise), virtual desktop environments (Azure Virtual Desktop), identity management (Active Directory, Entra ID), and the Cisco network (routing, switching, Wi-Fi).

This is a high-level network and systems engineering position responsible for managing and maintaining multiple advanced technologies throughout the Human Services Department.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical staff, will possess strong written and verbal communications skills, will be able to work in a fast paced environment with competing priorities, and will have direct experience administering and managing many of the following:

  • Palo Alto Networks technologies (Firewall, SD-WAN, Prisma, GlobalProtect)
  • Microsoft 365 Administration (Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Azure Architecture, Provisioning, and Management (Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Networking)
  • Windows Server technologies (Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS, MS SQL, SMB, Printing, PowerShell)
  • Dell Enterprise Servers and Storage Area Network Appliances
  • Network Security Design (LPA, SASE, ZTNA, ALZ)
  • Vulnerability Scanning and Remediation Systems (such as Microsoft Defender, NMAP, Tenable)
  • Data Sensitivity Tagging and Data Loss Protection (Azure, Microsoft Purview)
  • Packet Capturing and Analysis (such as Splunk, Wireshark, Fiddler)
  • Network Monitoring Systems (such as SolarWinds, NAble, LogicMonitor)
  • 3rd Party SecOps and MDR Services (such as Adlumen, Arctic Wolf, CrowdStrike, Red Canary)
  • A.I. assistants (Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
  • Enterprise Backup
  • Email Security Services and Technologies (SPIF, DMARC, SPF, and Email Encryption)
  • Third Party Email Security Services (such as Mimecast, Barracuda, Proofpoint, Ironscales)

Requirements

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally this would include:

Experience: Three years of experience in designing, installing, and maintaining complex multi-site LANs and WANs;

AND

Education: The equivalent to graduation from a two-year college with major coursework in a related field.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of: network and IT architectures; available bandwidth concepts and resources; network management systems concepts and methods; advanced network technologies; IT security methods and policies; agency-level business and mission requirements; and project management methods and principles.

Working knowledge of:
customer service protocol; operating environments sufficient to install, configure, and maintain operating systems components.

Ability to: develop contingency plans to ensure continuous availability and accessibility of network resources in the event of emergencies; design network architectures; conduct cost-benefit analyses and total cost of ownership and capacity studies; establish security practices; develop contingency and recovery plans; manage and maintain network protocols; provide Intranet or Internet gateways; and coordinate other actions to ensure the implementation of networks that support mission requirements; evaluate and define infrastructure requirements; select hardware and software components; assemble installation teams; coordinate network implementation planning; and oversee testing and implementation; lead the implementation of major projects.
