Summary

About the Position: The U.S.

Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) is a joint Department of Defense command responsible for processing applicants into five branches of military service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard).

The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative assistance with transportation arrangements for military enlistees. This is a permanent position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Maintaining applicant records by updating account information; Obtaining data from applicants for completion of personnel records; Capturing applicant's fingerprints for pre-employment background checks; and Utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

-OR- Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

-OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Major Duties:

  • Serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, and directing them appropriately.
  • Maintain office security by controlling access via the reception desk such as issuing and/or collecting visitor badges and maintaining visitor logs.
  • Answer, screen, and forward incoming calls.
  • Prepare correspondence in accordance with agency regulations.
  • Inform visitors and applicants by answering or referring inquiries.
  • Obtain applicant information to process entrance documents from individuals who are enlisting/re-enlisting into the military service.
  • Manage projection scheduling lists that records applicant processing requirements.
  • Perform records management of electronic and paper applicant records.
  • Utilize several military personnel database systems to update and/or maintain information to ensure the most current and accurate data available.
  • Operate a variety of office automation equipment.to prepare enlistment and other military personnel documents.
