The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB ) is seeking a skilled and dependable Housing Maintenance Lead to support the daily operations of our campus residential communities. Set along the scenic South Carolina coast, USCB offers a unique environment where your technical expertise directly enhances the student experience.

This is more than a maintenance role—it’s an opportunity to lead, problem-solve, and ensure that our student housing facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming year-round.

As the Housing Maintenance Lead, you will take a hands-on role in maintaining and improving campus housing facilities while supporting operational efficiency and safety:

• Conduct security inspections and perform repairs on exterior doors, windows, roof hatches, lighting systems, and related infrastructure.
• Maintain daily operations of HVAC systems and domestic hot water systems to ensure consistent comfort for residents.
• Perform minor repairs across electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, including appliances such as washers, dryers, and ice makers.
• Complete interior and exterior finish repairs—ranging from painting and flooring to cabinetry, glass, and structural fixtures.
• Inspect and maintain exterior building components such as roofs, drains, downspouts, and sealants.
• Execute preventive maintenance tasks including filter changes, coil cleaning, lubrication, system checks, and replacement of consumable components.
• Maintain cleanliness of residential exteriors, including breezeways, entrances, and walkways.
• Accurately complete and submit work orders, logbooks, timesheets, and material requests.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate timely ordering of maintenance supplies.
• Assist with equipment condition assessments and provide input for annual budget planning.
• Communicate effectively with housing leadership and maintenance management to ensure seamless operations.
• Provide guidance and direction to team members while also working independently across multiple assignments.

What You Bring

• Strong working knowledge of general building maintenance, including HVAC , electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose issues and perform minor repairs and equipment adjustments.
• Experience using tools, equipment, and materials common to facilities maintenance.
• Ability to read, understand, and execute both written and verbal instructions.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Working knowledge of computer systems for maintenance tracking and reporting.
• Flexibility and a proactive approach to addressing campus-wide maintenance needs.
• Familiarity with multiple campus buildings and the ability to work across locations as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to understand, carry out routine oral and written instructions as well as work independently and to direct work of others. Considerable knowledge and skill in use of tools, equipment, and materials used in general building maintenance applicable to the job. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments of equipment. Ability to work with computer and software systems for maintenance records. Exhibit large degree of flexibility with assignments. Must have knowledge of all campus buildings to be able to perform work in any building.
