Full Job Description
Operates tandem dump trucks for hauling material and transporting equipment for maintenance and construction operations. Operates medium equipment such as a Skid Steer, Tractor with Large Mower (greater than 10 feet wide), and Large Roller (> 4 tons) to improve roadway issues. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies, and procedures for fleet safety. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment. Operates heavier equipment such as a motor graders, backhoes, lowboy truck tractor, slope mowers, and specialized equipment for cleaning out drainage ditches, installing sideline and cross line pipe, and bridge repairs. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations by operating standard dump truck with snow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Operates brine truck during snow and ice events. May include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Picks up litter and debris. Operates chain saw to remove trees from the right-of-way. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
