Full Job Description
Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium-duty equipment such as Skid Steer in a variety of activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. Work is performed on shoulders, ditches, drainage structures, etc. Performs a variety of vegetation management activities by operating the following medium-duty equipment: Combination Tractor with side-mounted mower. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies, and procedures for fleet safety. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment. Operates chain saw in cutting trees on right-of-way. Operates standard dump truck with snow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Operates brine truck during snow and ice events. Picks up litter and debris. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
