Full Job Description
Operates medium-sized equipment such as rollers > 4 tons, skid steer loader, and trailer-mounted injection patcher (AMZ Machine) in conjunction with the highway and bridge maintenance operations. Operates front-end loader, tandem and single-axle dump trucks with trailers for hauling material and transporting equipment for maintenance and construction operations. Operates heavier equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, and lowboy truck tractor for patching potholes and installing drives on the state roads. Operates and maintains powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance related to assigned tasks such as tree and vegetation removal, cleaning pipes and ditches, concrete sidewalk and gutter repair and maintenance, limb trimming, weed eating, facility maintenance, and litter and dead animal removal. Assists with producing daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as HMMS and the maintenance requests and complaints forms. Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Operates both portable tank-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Must be available for after-hour work, inclement weather operations, and assisting on-call personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
