Full Job Description

Community Health Director

The Community Health Director position (classified as Health and Human Resources Specialist, Senior) at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department focuses on increasing and managing community health services throughout our six-county region.

This position is responsible for a wide range of functions including grant management, financial oversight, staff supervision, community engagement, and emergency preparedness coordination.

The Community Health Director is responsible for writing, obtaining, and managing grants, while also generating and managing associated annual operating budgets and day-to-day finances.

This role involves managing existing services and generating new activities and standards to solve public health problems, such as Quick Response Teams and general community health initiatives.

A crucial part of the position is playing a key role in the Community Health Needs Assessment, Community Health Improvement Plan, and related reports.

This position will supervise employees within the Community Health Program and the Threat Preparedness Coordinator, acting in the latter role when vacant to support emergency programs dealing with outbreaks.

Finally, the role includes performing other related duties requested by the Executive Director.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to research and write grants.

Ability to generate and adhere to budgets.

Management of people, grants, and finances.

Ability to communicate professionally, both orally and written.

Proficiency with computers

Comfortable communicating and working with the public and state/federal agencies in a professional manner.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Strong ability to arrange and organize data and information efficiently.

Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
Substitution: Additional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Four years full-time, equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in a technical or program area that is related to the area of employment.
Substitution: Post-graduate education in a field related to the technical or program area may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of fifteen semester hours for one year of experience.
