Job Description

Summary

This job involves reviewing the design, construction, and safety of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, leading technical meetings on energy projects, and preparing environmental analyses for government approvals.

It's a traveling role based in Houston, Texas, where you'll inspect sites and work with stakeholders on energy infrastructure.

A good fit would be an engineer with experience in LNG safety and reliability who enjoys fieldwork and problem-solving in a regulatory environment.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (professional engineering license preferred)

This General Engineer position is available in the Division of LNG - Facility Review & Inspections, Houston Region in the Office of Energy Projects.

In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience performing safety, reliability, and engineering analysis for LNG terminals or peak-shavers.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.

This position is a Mobile Work position.

Mobile work is characterized by routine and regular travel to conduct work in customer or other worksites as opposed to a single authorized alternative worksite.

Examples of mobile work include site audits, site inspections, investigations, property management, and work performed while commuting, traveling between worksites, or on Temporary Duty (TDY).

Due to the nature of the work and the mission of the Office of Energy Projects, mobile workers must remain within driveable commuting distance of the designated FERC Regional Area.

Houston Region – Mobile Agreement Duty Station must be within 350 miles of the following area: Lake Charles, LA. Major Duties:

As a General Engineer, some of your typical work assignments may include: Studying a variety of engineering and safety problems in evaluating the design, construction, and operation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

Organizing and leading technical meetings on proposed and authorized LNG projects.

Preparing the engineering analyses included in Commission NEPA documents for proposed LNG facilities and communicates information to stakeholders.
