Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month.

Basic Entry Qualifications: Must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study.
I have a degree in professional engineering (to be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics).
-OR- Must have a combination of education and college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering (The adequacy of such background is demonstrated by one of the following: 1.
Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico, Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico, 3.
Specified academic courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A.
The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A, 4.
Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.
- AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).
This experience includes the following activities: Mastery of, and skilled in applying, professional expertise in advanced engineering theories, concepts, principles, standards, and methods to provide expert engineering advice and consultation to senior colleagues and/or Department officials who are responsible for broad program operations, and to execute significant projects with complex features that represent an important segment of the Department's operating programs or that affect the welfare of the public and/or the sustainability of natural resources.
You must include hours per week worked.
To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).
This experience must include the following activities: Expert engineering experience providing consultation and advisement on significant projects with complex features.

*Additional requirements located under Education* Major Duties:
The major duties of the Civil Engineer position include, but are not limited to: Provide review, guidance, tracking, and oversight for design and construction projects from inception through completion.
Prepare and maintain documentation of conversations, meetings, review sessions, on-site inspections, and related activities.
Serves as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and single point of overall technical and administrative responsibility and accountability.
Participate in pre-bid meetings in support of the Contracting Officer (CO).
Prepare project scopes of work (SOW) for AE design services and construction projects; develop associated project schedules and cost estimates.
Manage construction change orders by preparing SOW and cost estimate for CO for construction modification.
Coordinate with project specialists, compliance staff, cultural resources staff, and other project team members to meet project goals.
Exercise overall coordination and management of site investigations, planning, design, and scheduling between site personnel, and contractors.
Review project plans and specifications for quality assurance prior to acceptance of final construction documents.
Observe, monitor, investigate, and evaluate construction projects during all stages to ensure safety, soundness, and compliance with contract requirements and design.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
