Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an engineer for the Navy to plan, manage, and improve the maintenance and upgrades of ships and their equipment, ensuring they stay reliable and ready for use.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band, NH-02 (GS-11 Equivalent), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer providing guidance on the design, maintenance, and modernization of Navy ships, and the analytical, technical, and communication skills to conduct studies, manage information systems, and effectively represent the organization to all levels of management.

  • You will plan, manage and coordinate various engineering programs to identify, develop, and manage assessment and repair maintenance requirements, with a focus on assigned equipment and systems.
  • You will research, analyze, and evaluate operational and maintenance trend data which impact equipment material condition, operational availability, maintenance durations, and ability to achieve Expected Service Life.
  • You will review completed projects for adequate and complete engineering data, with responsibility and authority to amend or reject the project and adapt precedents or existing strategies to meet unusual needs of special program demands.
  • You will resolve a wide variety of complex problems, and participate with SURFMEPP and external managers in persuading users to accept maintenance and modernization approaches and proposed improvements impacting assigned systems and equipment.
  • You will act as an authoritative advisor on assigned equipment and system engineering matters pertaining to life cycle maintenance techniques and requirements, including assessments, repair and maintenance processes.
  • You will assist Commander Naval Surface Forces Type Desk, Class Squadrons and Maintenance managers throughout the Navy community in identifying and resolving advance planning and engineering problems for the Navy's surface fleet.
  • Conduct special engineering data analysis for specific projects as directed by Commander Naval Surface Forces, Fleet Forces Command and the Naval Sea Systems Command.
  • You will devise, customize, operate, oversee, review analyze and/or evaluate specialized data and information found in specialized information technology systems to determine the need for changes in assessment and repair requirements.
  • You will present and evaluate plans, designs, reports and correspondence, including verbal and written briefs, to SURFMEPP leadership, Naval Sea Systems Command, and other stakeholders.
