Full Job Description

You will serve as a FINANCIAL TECHNICIAN in the Accounting Division (610), Payroll (614) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

GS-08 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying accounting systems principles, standard accounting codes, methods and techniques.

Experience examining invoices, vouchers, and related documents.

Experience understanding civilian pay and leave rules, regulations procedures, programs and systems, and civilian personnel rules and regulations that affect pay.

Experience working accurately with figures, keyboarding is required. GS-07 Experience extracting data from records to prepare reports. Experience responding to pay inquiries and processing adjustments.

Experience making and verifying arithmetical computations, keyboarding is required.

Experience understanding administrative rules, regulations and procedures associated with records, reporting, processing, and keeping track of budgetary transactions Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

  • You will pull various information from the Defense Civilian Pay System (DCPS) to input time and attendance for civilian personnel.
  • You will analyze payroll reporting to recommend changes where need for improvement is evident.
  • You will maintain payroll reports, including additional pay and deductions, shift changes, hazardous and environmental pay, and reports from Defense Finance Accounting Services (DFAS) on personnel pay records.
  • You will examine documents for accuracy, adequacy of documentation, compliance with regulations for goods and services provided to or by the Government.
  • You will answer requests and provide advice to employees, supervisors, staff in other financial management series and personnel specialists on pay related rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • You will examine, balance, computer, and extract data from records to prepare reports.
