Summary

This job involves leading the design, development, and improvement of advanced training systems and software for the Navy, ensuring they support mission goals through collaboration with various partners.

As a senior expert, you'll tackle technical challenges, integrate systems, and apply best practices in engineering.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12/13 (ND-04 pay band) in systems or software engineering for complex projects like training or weapon systems
  • Qualifications in one of the following series: General Engineer (0801), Physical Scientist (1301), Mathematician (1520), Computer Scientist (1550), or Data Scientist (1560)
  • Expertise in advanced system and software engineering principles, standards, and methods
  • Experience leading design, development, modernization, and integration of software and system architectures
  • Ability to foster collaboration between government, industry, and academia on technical projects
  • Skills in process improvement, automation, and solving technical challenges in engineering lifecycles
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance (implied for Navy position)

Full Job Description

You will serve as an Engineer or Scientist in the Engineering Branch; Integrated Training Systems Division of NAVSURFWARCENACT DAM NECK VA.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15.

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a Physical Scientist (1301-series), a Mathematician (1520-series), a Computer Scientist (1550-series), or a Data Scientist (1560 series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 pay band (GS-12/13 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer or scientist applying advanced system or software engineering practices to promote collaboration, drive innovation, and ensure the successful delivery of systems (e.g., Integrated Training Systems or Weapon Systems) that align with the Navy's mission objectives.

  • You will serve as the senior systems and software engineering expert within the Integrated Training Systems Division supporting all aspects of Shore-Based Training System programs.
  • You will lead the design, development, and modernization of software and system architectures.
  • You will direct technical execution efforts focusing on systems integration and software development, and fostering collaboration between government, industry, and academia.
  • You will provide expertise on system and advanced software engineering principles, standards, and methods to ensure project deliverables meet modern engineering best practices.
  • You will identify, initiate, and lead efforts aimed to gain efficiencies in process improvement, automation, and solving technical challenges that arise during the system engineering and software development lifecycles.
