Summary

This senior-level role involves leading engineering or scientific teams in developing and testing weapon systems for the U.S.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, mathematics, operations research, or computer science (or equivalent)
  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-12/13 level (or ND-04 equivalent) in planning, executing, and overseeing technical projects for energetic or weapon systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in design, integration, testing, sustainment, and quality control of weapon or explosive systems
  • Broad knowledge of policies, standards, laws, regulations, and procedures in explosives and test/evaluation fields
  • Leadership skills to advise division heads, provide policy oversight, mentor new engineers/scientists, and conduct technical/risk reviews
  • Experience in requirements derivation, engineering design, system integration, and program execution for readiness and alignment with engineering practices

Full Job Description

You will serve as an ENGINEER/SCIENTIST in the Weapon Systems Development Division (JXP) or Experimentation and Assessment Division (JXR) of NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-05 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-14 and GS-15.

In addition to basic education requirements, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 (GS-12/13 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist, overseeing planning and execution of technical engineering or scientific projects involving design, integration, or testing of energetic or weapon systems to ensure sustainment, quality control, and readiness for energetic or weapons programs.

  • You will serve as the Chief Engineer/Scientist for the Weapon Systems Development Division (JXP) or Experimentation and Assessment Division (JXR), advising the Division Head on division readiness, technical rigor, and execution of programs/projects.
  • You will provide policy direction, oversight, and assessment of the Division's scientific and engineering community.
  • You will apply a broad knowledge of policies, standards, laws, regulations, and procedures in the fields of Explosives and Test and Evaluation.
  • You will oversee and participate in technical program projects to ensure implementation of requirements derivation, engineering design and implementation, system integration, and testing.
  • You will lead the development of new engineers and scientists including serving as a mentor and supporting Branch Managers to meet career competency development requirements.
  • You will monitor division technical programs and conduct regular technical and risk reviews to ensure alignment with adequate system engineering practices.
