Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This temporary one-year detail position involves working as an engineer or scientist in a high-level technical office at a naval warfare center, handling complex projects, evaluating new ideas, and collaborating with senior leaders on undersea technology initiatives.
It's ideal for experienced government civilians already at a senior level who want to gain executive exposure and contribute to strategic technical decisions without needing to relocate permanently.
A good fit would be someone with a strong background in engineering or science who enjoys team-based problem-solving and leadership development.
These detail opportunities are open to DON permanent civilian employees in the competitive service currently at the ND-4 grade level (GS-12 /13 equivalency) or higher.
The selectee will be placed on a temporary detail not to exceed one year.
The detailee for this position will serve as an Engineer or Scientist in the office of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport in the Deputy Technical Director (TDB), Chief Technology Officer (CTO), or Business Director (Code 0BD) organizations.
This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a Scientist (1301-series), or a Mathematician (1501-series), depending upon the qualifications of the candidate.

Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): General Engineering Series 0801 General Physical Science Series, 1301 General Mathematics and Statistics Series 1501* You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.
